“Today my personal work includes projects in fashion and culture and human stories.”
Mona Shatry is a photographer, creative director, and interdisciplinary artist with German-Arab roots. Born in Kenya and raised on a farm, she developed an early sensitivity for visual storytelling and a deep connection to themes of identity, belonging, and cultural diversity. Her work moves fluidly between photography, design, and narrative exploration, blending documentary approaches with a clear and evocative visual language.
After studying Design Management, she specialized in fashion, portrait, and documentary photography. Her projects combine visual clarity with a profound sense for personal stories. One of her series, About Beauty, explores the many dimensions of beauty while challenging conventional ideals. Through intimate portraits of women across different ages and cultural backgrounds, she offers a nuanced view of beauty as an expression of individuality and inner strength. The series has been exhibited internationally, including at Image Nation in Paris and New York.
Alongside her photographic work, she develops visual concepts for brands, exhibitions, and cultural initiatives. Operating under her own name, she merges artistic aesthetics with a strategic understanding of image-making and its impact in public space. Her focus lies on holistic visual storytelling, creating strong identities that bridge brand narratives and artistic vision.
Since 2024, she has been leading the Female Photo Club in Munich on a voluntary basis. In this role, she actively advocates for visibility, equity, and community within the photography and creative industries.
At the heart of her work lies a consistent intention: to make social realities visible through imagery – opening up new ways of seeing and shaping a visual culture grounded in authenticity, depth, and diversity.
